I'm a gladiator

These are photos of our weekend trip to Trier, where we explored the local gastronomy (apfelstrudel and beer, hee hee) and history (Trier claims to be the oldest city in Germany, and they even have Roman ruins to prove it). We visited an old Roman amphitheater, where Lauren's boyfriend and I finally duked it out and settled our differences.

The Romans would have been proud.

    Uncle Brian,

Teaching MUST be one of the most challenging professions--my respect for teachers (which was A LOT before) has only increased since being here!

I have had some good experiences, though. There are some kids who act up all the time, and others who act bored all the time, but then there are the students who really try, and the ones who come up to you in the hallway to tell you that they missed you when you weren't there last class...and they make it worth it!

Oh, and eating is one of France's favorite pasttimes, I think. You should have seen the heaping plates of the teachers I ate with in the cafeteria today ... complete with an entrée before, and a cheese to follow...

A teacher just came up to me and asked me to teach her entire class, because she is feeling sick--and the class starts in five minutes!! I better go!
